Tempting! Which one would you get?! I stopped into Tozando in Kyoto. They have these incredible replica samurai armor made in Kyushu. Unfortunately I couldn’t try any on. The staff were really friendly though. If you are ever in Kyoto stop in and have a look!

The Fushimi Inari Taisha (shrine) is dedicated to the God of Rice. Rice was used as a symbol of wealth before 💰 came into use. The animal spirit of this shrine is the 🦊 who hunts the 🐁 that eat the rice, so the fox is essentially the protector of wealth. As you can imagine many people visit this shrine to pray for wealth and prosperity. Fun fact #1: there are approximately 13000 Torii gates in this this shrine, which line the path up to the top of the mountain. Fun fact #2: Each torii has writing on it which I thought were ancient wisdoms, but to my surprise they are simply the names of people or companies that have paid for the Torii as a donation to the shrine. Anybody wanna pitch in to buy a torii? Starting price is about $5000 USD 🤣. Good for a 5 year term. At thr end of term, you can renew with additional payment. Otherwise they take a chainsaw to your torii 😱. They do not play around!

Coolest fountain I have ever seen!

Things you see at a Shinto shrine! Etiquette: Bow at the entrance of the shrine gates; walk to the left through the gates and reserve the middle path for the gods to walk. Wash your hands and your mouth in the fountain before approaching the altar. Have cash to offer at the altar and to purchase amulets and plaques for tributes. I can imagine these places being pretty peaceful without the oceans of tourists 😂 btw those barrels are for sake. Sake is a sacred drink in Shinto. Kampai!

Put money into this vending machine and 5 minutes later, deliciousness is upon you!

OK. Gotta admit. I saw this place on YouTube and IG so I was drawn like a 🦋 to a 🔥 (no pun intended). Anyway, I enjoyed the experience with fellow travelers (from 🇦🇺). I had the vegetarian set which comes with the “cool badge” 😎. DM me for in-depth insight. 🔥 🍜

The Itsukushima Shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The floating Torii Gate is as spectacular as I imagined it. You can even walk out to it in low tide. Mame Okami approves!

Momiji Manju (buckwheat and rice cake, typically filled with red bean paste) is a big deal here in Miyajima. Great with ice cream. Next is the deep fried version. Those molds they use to make the Japanese maple leaf shape are pretty cool too! 🍁

Streetfood breakfast! BTW I tried okonomiyaki for the first time, ever. I was underwhelmed 🫤

When I travel I miss my dog, Okami 🐕. I wish I could share my adventures with her. So I’m Tokyo I found the perfect solution ( inspired by a fellow traveler, Jennifer). It is my pleasure to introduce, mame Okami. My new surrogate travel pal. Here mame Okami is about to tear into a delicious bento box of salmon, chicken, and tempura while whizzing at speeds of 200 mph toward Hiroshima on the Shinkansen 🚅. Itadakimasu 🍱 🥢! 🐾

Had the privilege of attending an amazing “Samurai Experience” with Mr Yusuke Goto. In addition to the fun sword play we got to learn about the tea ceremony and why it was an important part of Samurai culture. More on that later. I highly recommmend this experience that I booked through Airbnb. Yusuke-San was an excellent host and teacher!

First morning in Tokyo. Totally jet lagged. Stopped into Nurakuro Cafe for a “quiet” breakfast and met a cute mom and son running the place. The son Nara slapped the samurai helmet on me and it went off the rails from there. 😂 Breakfast including coffee was $5. Exchange rate is insane so I had to order two! Topped it off with meeting their friend who stopped in for breakfast too. He is a sumo wrestler from Mongolia. Calling him a big booi” would be an understatement”. He was so big that he couldn’t fit in the picture 😆

Fall is the perfect time to Visit Yosemite! First time in the park this year for me. Mild temperatures and manageable crowds!
